We would like to welcome you to Austria and to our Chalet - Chalet Enzian - named after one of Austria's prettiest spring flowers, located in the picturesque village of Stadl an der Mur , in the beautiful River Mur valley (Murtal). Stadl is situated almost 90 miles (140 km) south of Salzburg in the province of Styria (Steiermark) - 'The Green Heart of Austria', and is also close to the borders of Carinthia (Kaernten) and Salzburgerland.

The village has a population of just over 1,000 inhabitants and has several shops along the main road including a florist, bakers, chemist, post office and hairdressers and 3 supermarkets. There is a coffee bar as well and if you are feeling hungry the excellent Gasthof Murtalerhof offers a reasonably priced lunch time and dinner menu. From the village and taking the Paal road, you will cross the railway line - take care to stop and look before crossing, and then you will see the local park on your left, which contains a swimming lake (fed by pure spring water), which doubles up as a skating rink in the winter, a café serving food and drinks in the summer, tennis courts, a football field, a beach volleyball court, a roller skating half-pipe, and a children's play area with wooden climbing frames and rope course. The park is a 10 minute walk from the Chalet and is a pleasant way of spending a relaxing day in the Summer.

This region in Austria is well known to the Germans, Dutch, Italians and the Austrians themselves, who have holidayed here all year round for many years, and it is just beginning to open up to the British market. It is renowned for its many lakes - Turracher See, Woerther See, Millstaetter See, Weissen See and the Ossiacher See in particular, and its proximity to the magnificent Hohe Tauern mountain range to the west. In addition, the Nockberge National Park and Grebenzen National Park are also close by waiting to be explored.

Although Austria is synonymous with winter sports, there is far more to do here, in Stadl an der Mur, throughout the year.
